\"\"Antony van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723), draper of seventeenth-century Delft Holland in his spare time retired to his “closet” to observe the wonders of the microscopic world through tiny lenses he laboriously ground and mounted. He was first to report having seen “animalcules”-protozoa and bacteria-in rain water and scraplings from teeth and confirmed by direct observation circulation of the blood. Though 200 years were to elapse before practical application of his discoveries contributed to medicine, His work laid the foundation for modern’s medicines tremendous century-long on-slaught against diseses caused by bacteria and other microbilogic form of life.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

`Established in 2009, the Department of Microbiology is a spacious facility located on the 2nd floor of the college building on the campus. We aim to provide quality diagnostic services to patients and a conducive learning experience for students. Our vision is to move towards accreditation of our services by the National Accreditation Board for Laboratories. And, to develop a teaching programme that addresses the needs of practising medical graduates, in accordance with the Medical Council of India and the Pondicherry University. To achieve these, establish a team that is motivated, hard working and enjoys the process in a stress free working environment.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The clinical microbiology laboratory has separate processing areas for bacteriology, media preparation, immunology, serology, parasitology, mycology, mycobacteriology, virology and research. The sample collection for inpatients as well as outpatients is done centrally in the OPD block of the hospital. A 24 hour emergency facility is available within the central laboratory.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
