\u00a0Department of Physiology Indira Gandhi Medical College, Puducherry is the preclinical department imparting training to undergraduate first year medical (MBBS) students. The academic program is delivered by reputed faculty which includes one professor, two associate professors, five assistant professors and four tutors. The department has fully equipped haematology lab, clinical physiology lab, amphibian lab, mammalian lab and research lab. The department encourages research by undergraduate medical students under the guidance of faculty under the banner of Indian Council of Medical Research. The research lab in department of physiology has computerized physiography, computerized polygraphs, bicycle ergo meter, hand grip dynamometer, echocardiogram, vitalometers, peak expiratory flow meter etc which are being used by the faculty to conduct research in pulmonary, exercise and autonomic physiology. The department is planning to start MD and PhD courses in Physiology and upgrading its research lab with spirometers, EMG and Nerve Conduction recorders and Vo2 Analyzers for conducting advance research in exercise physiology.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Dr. N A John, Professor and HOD Physiology, he did his MBBS from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Sewagram and MD Physiology from Indira Gandhi Government Medical College Nagpur. In addition he holds a Diploma in Industrial Hygiene and Masters in Public Administration.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Academic training of undergraduate medical student : <\/strong>
The students are trained with the objective that should be able to describe the normal functions and regulation of all organ systems in the body, apply this knowledge to understand the maintenance of homeostasis in the body, describe the physiological responses and adaptations to environmental stressors, apply the knowledge of the physiology of reproduction to promote the National Family Welfare Programs, apply this knowledge to understand the Patho-physiology and treatment of disease, co-relate knowledge of Physiology with other medical disciplines, acquire skills to perform experiments, which demonstrate various physiological phenomena and analyze and interpret data obtained from experiments in Physiology.<\/div>

Training Program in Department of Physiology :<\/strong>
Presently running an undergraduate training for students of First MBBS courses in MD Physiology and PhD physiology will be started in due course of time.<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
