Institute Pharmacovigilance Committee Pa

Pharmacovigilance is the science that deals with activities related to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse drug reactions. This helps us to evolve policy towards safe and effective use of medicines so that drug related mortality and morbidity can be prevented or minimised.

1. To monitor the ADR
2. To optimize safe and effective use of medicines in our set up
3. To provide the safety related information to all stakeholders
4. To create an awareness among the healthcare professionals in reporting ADR.

The institute became an Adverse Drug Monitoring centre (AMC) under the guidance of the Indian Pharmacopoeia commission,Ghaziabad and is routinely involved in reporting ADRs from both within the institute and also some other medical colleges, in and around Puducherry.

The institute also conducts routine Pharmacovigilance awareness programmes for health care providers including nurses, pharmacists, health care personnel and also Post Graduates in Pharmacology

List of Pharmacovigilance workshops conducted by the department of Pharmacology   

1. Monitoring the ADR in inpatients and outpatients.
2. Assessment of causality and feedback to clinicians
3. Maintaining the ADR registry.
4. Training of healthcare professionals (clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, medical students) for voluntary ADR reporting.
5. Awareness program towards educating the public.

1. To identify the areas of public importance such as Pharmacovigilance of Antimicrobial agents, Analgesics, Drug safety in Paediatrics etc. through co-operation from various disciplines

• To identify other areas through constant vigilant activity so that we can maximize the safe and effective use of medicines in our set-up.  

To establish a Drug Information Centre in our institute to disseminate need-based drug related information to stake holders.
