Medical Education Unit

Vision:

Training teachers of health professionals in educational technology.

Objectives:

To sensitize medical professionals concerning the principles involved in teaching and learning.
To motivate teachers of medical professionals to develop educational strategies aimed at overcoming and/or minimizing lacunae in the present setup.
To select and implement appropriate evaluation techniques based on the purpose.
To promote curricular research and innovation.

Members:

The MEU comprise of trained medical teachers drawn from various departments, who are like-minded, willing to devote time and energy towards attainment of quality medical education.

Activities:

The activities of the MEU will be towards the achievement of the earlier mentioned objectives along with conduct of programmes towards faculty development and periodic continuing medical education. (Academic Presentations).

Faculty Development:

Teachers of medical professionals need to be trained in framing objectives, selecting appropriate teaching/learning (TL) methods and proper evaluation methodologies. They should also be trained in educational science and technology. To implement these, workshops will be conducted initially at a local level involving new entrants and faculty who have not had training in medical education technology.

The MEU will encourage and motivate the participants to initiate active research in their own settings.

Continuing Medical Education:

Technological advancement and knowledge explosion are advancing at a fast pace. To keep up with the latest advances, the medical educators must update their knowledge at regular intervals, hence the need for CME.

Future Plans:

To implement innovations in teaching learning activities and evaluate them.
To conduct surveys to identify the deficits in the current medical curriculum and take necessary steps to modify the same.
To build a network among medical teachers who are interested in medical education technology, and are willing to bring about fruitful changes towards a more community oriented medical scenario. This networking may help in achieving high standards of medical education.
To coordinate medical education, research & training for optimal development of medical teachers and students.
To progress towards establishment of a Department of Medical Education.
