"TOWARDS FREEDOM FROM LYMPHATIC FILARIASIS"
Government of India, NVBDCP, Delhi has proposed to observe National Filaria Day on 10.02.2012 in Puducherry with Mass Drug Administration of DEC & Albendazole to achieve the National goal of Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis by 2015 on line with World Health Assembly 1997 resolution.
The theory behind the Mass Drug Administration is that by consuming DEC & Albendazole tablets as a single dose on a specific day once a year by the whole eligible community, would bring about a substantial reduction in the microfilaria load on the affected individuals. This when successfully continued for 5 to 6 successive years would totally cut off any further transmission of Lymphatic Filariasis, thereby Eliminating Lymphatic Filariasis in that community.
This year, on 10.02.2012 Health Volunteers designated as Drug Distributors will distribute DEC & Albendazole tablets to all excluding pregnant women, very old & sick and children below 2 years.
