Hospital Block:
State of the art Hospital building with 750 beds initially (5 stories) over 5.09 lakh square feet built up area and later to be increased to 1000 beds (8 storeyes)is being planned in the future. 15 Operation Theatres (O.Ts) with state of the art ICUs are a part of the initial stage. 18 Specialty Operation Theatres for six super-specialty departments are to come up in the future.

Out-patient Department:
  • Routine Care is being offered to patients from in and around Pondicherry free of charge in various Clinical Departments between 8:00 AM & 12:00 PM. In the near future we plan to establish special clinics in all the Departments like hypertension clinic, Diabetic Clinic, Epilepsy Clinic, Rheumatology Clinic, IEC Clinic, Asthma Clinic, COPD Clinic, Smoking Cessation Clinic, Well baby Clinic, Nutrition Clinic, Cardiac Clinic, Trans Gender Clinic, Geriatric Clinic, Stroke Clinic, A.R.T. Centre, Tumour Clinic, P.M.R.H.Centre etc.

Laboratory Services

 

Microbiology Lab:
The clinical microbiology laboratory has separate processing areas for bacteriology, media preparation, immunology, serology, parasitology, mycology, mycobacteriology, virology and research. The sample collection for inpatients as well as outpatients is done centrally in the OPD block of the hospital. A 24 hour emergency facility is available within the central laboratory.
 
The Clinical Microbiology service presently includes Bacteriology, Mycology, Serology and Parasitology. To save costs and enable greater process control, we have opted for manual processing of samples over automation.
  
Bacteriology offers the Gram, ZN and Albert stain, with culture and antimicrobial sensitivity of non fastidious bacteria. Medically important fungi are identified by routine mycology staining techniques and culture. Parasitology includes microscopy for protozoans/ helminths, and test for the presense of occult blood, in stool. Commercial rapid tests are employed for detecting HBsAg, CRP, ASLO, RA factor, RPR, and Widal. These services are supported by in-house media preparation.

 

The laboratory offers round the clock services, handling a total of 7000 samples for culture and 7000 for serology annually. Quality system essentials are being addressed for accurate reporting. The laboratory follows the ‘Clinical Microbiology Procedures Handbook’ of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Press in its Standardised Operating Procedures. And the antimicrobial susceptibility testing is strictly as per the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines.

 
Continuous surveillance of in-vitro antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is integrated in the sensitivity reporting and data analysis so as to enable us to evolve a rational antibiotic policy for the hospital.
 
Pathology Lab:
Histopathology section:
  1. Histopathological study of various biopsy materials from our hospital, government maternity hospital and ESI hospital.
  2. Various special stains and frozen section study are carried out.

Haematology & clinical pathology:
  1. 24 hours service available, various haematology investigations like complete blood count, TC, DC, peripheral blood smear study, ESR along with special tests like sickling test, osmotic fragility test.
  2. Urine routine & special tests.
Cytology:
1. Fine needle aspiration cytology both direct and ultrasound guided.
2. Pap smear study.
3. Fluid cytology for malignant cells.

 

Biochemistry Lab:
The department has a Research lab which houses the sophisticated instruments for special laboratory investigations. The water distillation units are also installed in this lab and the department is self – sufficient in providing the double- distillated water for use in its students’ lab as well as the clinical laboratory.

 

The Clinical Biochemistry laboratory is situated in the Hospital block. It provides 24 – hour’s service to the patients. It is well equipped with state – of – the –art sophisticated analysers for efficient and reliable reporting of results.

 

The Biochemistry division of the central lab is a 24 hours lab providing all basic investigation - which includes blood chemistry electrolytes coagulation profile and arterial blood gas.
