Karikalampakkam CHC and Lawspet PHC

The Department of Pulmonary Medicine at IGMC &RI has been recognized as a ‘Designated Microscopy cum DOTS Centre’ under the revised National Tuberculosis Control Program by the Puducherry State TB Control Office since March 2011. The diagnostic services under RNTCP are carried out by a RNTCP trained Technician with emphasis on quality Smear Microscopy. The department has made provisions to arrange for free anti-TB treatment to all diagnosed patients under the program.
Integrated Councelling and Testing Centre:
Under the auspices of the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) the Integrated Councelling and Testing Centre (ICTC) services were started from july 2011. It is effectively linked with the RNTCP, PPTCT (antenatal care) and STI clinic as per national guiddelines, handling 1200 samples annually. The EQAS for the ICTC is undertaken at the SRL for HIV at JIPMER
Surveillance Centre for Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers (dengue and chikungunya):
The laboratory has been nominated as a Surveillance Centre for Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers (dengue and chikungunya) and is engaged in establishing the ELISA for the purpose. This activity is supported by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, through the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, Puducherry.
Community Health Centre- Karikalampakkam
Rural Health Training Centre, Department of Community Medicine
Introduction
CHC Karikalampakkam is located about 15 kms from IGMC & RI. It is under the Department of Community Medicine since 2014. It covers 19 villages having a total population of about 31009. There are 4 subcentres under this CHC namely Embalam, Uruvaiyar, Korkadu and Aranganur. It is a 30 bedded, 24x 7 CHC with laboratory facilities and labour room. CHC provides services to about 2.3 lakhs out-patients and 650 inpatients in a year. Special clinics like Epilepsy, respiratory & anaemia clinic on Mondays, Diabetes clinic on Tuesdays, antenatal clinic on Wednesdays, Child health clinic on Thursdays, Cardiac clinic on Fridays and Adolescent clinic on Saturdays are organized at CHC. CHC Karikalampakkam is a Designated Microscopy Centre under RNTCP and a DOTS centre in the CHC provides services for the TB cases in and around Karikalampakkam. An HIV testing & counseling service is provided under NACO. A physiotherapy unit & Dental OPD are also attached with the CHC. Siddha & Homeopathy units have been functioning in the CHC for the people who are seeking alternative Indian System of Medicine.

Primary Health Centre- Lawspet

Introduction
PHC Lawspet is located about 5 kms from IGMC & RI. It is under the Department of Community Medicine since 2013. It covers a total population of about 85,892. It has three sub centres namely Karuvadikuppam (2 nos.) and Government Quarters (1 nos).It is 24x 7 PHC with laboratory services and observation facilities. PHC provides services to about approximately 66,000 out-patients in a year. Special clinics like antenatal clinic on Wednesdays, Immunisation clinic on Thursdays, NCD clinic on Tuesday, Fridays and Adolescent clinic on Saturdays are conducted at the PHC. PHC Lawspet is a Designated Microscopy Centre (DMC) and DOTS centre under RNTCP. PHC Lawspet has one Homeopathy,Ayurveda and Siddha unit.
